If you are experiencing any pain, stiffness or loss of range of motion – please pay attention to it! Your pain and injuries may be more serious than you think. It is best to have an evaluation and proper diagnosis as soon as you can.

Car accident injuries are often soft tissue and muscle related and will show up as stiffness, pain and lack of range of motion. Soft tissue injuries can cause inflammation and even be an indicator of - or lead to more serious injuries, making an early diagnosis even more important. The quicker you get on a plan of treatment, the better opportunity you have for a quicker, more permanent recovery.

Injuries from car wrecks are often internal injuries and will not show up on the outside. Frequently affecting your neck, back, and spine, causing them to be pushed out of alignment and even resulting in tendons, ligaments and joints, being inflamed, strained and even torn.

Even in slow impact collisions and accidents, injuries are often hidden and can result in serious problems you can’t see right away. They can be the reason you lose your ability to function as you once did.

It is important to get an initial exam and diagnosis as soon as you can, putting it off can often mean extra lost time at work and can delay your recovery time.

It is very common to NOT have any initial pain or symptoms at the time of the accident or even right after. They often don’t manifest themselves until days after.

Car accident occupants often experience whiplash as a common injury when they are in a rear end collision. Whiplash and other impact type injuries can also be a result of activity related to bicycles, motorcycles, falling when hiking, sports and other activities. It is often not even considered initially because symptoms don’t often show up until days after the accident.  You will often experience this as stiffness in your joints, pain in the neck, migraines, headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

What if I’m in a car accident – what should I do first? Please pay very close attention to your ability to carry on your normal activities, noticing any change in your level of any pain, your range of motion. Are you experiencing any additional stillness or even little constant pains that weren’t there before the accident? Even thinking you are just bruised, and all of this may “just go away in a few days” should be closely monitored. Trauma caused by any impact can cause all sorts of hidden issues that may or may not have long term effects, especially if untreated or if treatment is delayed.

It is better to be safe than sorry. Having an Initial diagnosis and a proper understanding as to what to look for, can help you avoid any unnecessary or prolonged symptoms.
